Portal

This Guide presents a brief introduction to the THMI tools available to user-level accounts (see About for details on roles). It will help you set up an environment for your first project and configure data widgets as you find necessary. The purpose of this page is to guide you through steps to get a functional project environment. As such, it omits many details and advanced configuration options; however, you will find links to respective sections across Documentation should any particular tool or function be of special interest.

Although this Guide occasionally refers to pages where you can find more detailed information, it is intended to be an independent document; as such, other documents might duplicate the information presented herein. On the other hand, the document does not contain any information that could not be found elsewhere.

Before You Go

The Guide assumes that you have a project set up and configured by Energy Machines™ personnel and have an account with the following permissions:

Component Minimum access level
HMI Operator
Mobile App Operator
Portal Manager
Local HMI Operator
IDE None

Contact your whom? to clarify which permissions you have. If your account only has Viewer permissions in any of the components, you won’t be able to access some of the interfaces covered in this Guide. Information on non-viewer-accessible tools or functions is marked with the lock sign .

Getting Started

Your who? will provide you with a link to access the EnergyMachines Cloud as well as with a username and password. Use them to log in at the link; on first login, you will be prompted to change your password:

Once logged in, you’ll an overview of the projects you have access to. This interface defaults to Map view Map view; for details on views, see Project views.

Click on a project to open its widget. Contents of the widget may vary, depending on the project’s configuration. For the purposes of this Guide, we start with a ‘vanilla’ project that only has a barebone configuration; in that case, the widget is empty:

screenshot here.

Regardless of the configuration, the widget will show:

  • Project's name (e.g., Project X)
  • Project's type (e.g,, EnergyMachines™)
  • Buttons to open its HMI and Settings profile

In addition to that, the widget can show KPIs in real time; however, KPIs need to be configured first, see …

Project Profile

Main article: Project Profile/General
Let's open the project's Settings  Profile. This will show the following elements:

The General tab allows you to view and, optionally, configure several types of information sources:

  • Pages are each a screen that shows dynamically updatable data in a layout created in Page editor1
  • Documents are PDF files you want to upload to share with other users of the project
  • Tags are data points, or variables, that enable inter-system communication and visualization of data such as device readings, states, control inputs, etc.
  • Alarms are special signals that are raised when a situation requires human intervention

This interface also allows to apply limited changes to the project’s configuration in Preferences, which, however, is outside the scope of this Guide. For details, go to ...

Follow the step-by-step instructions below to familiarize yourself with the different sections of the THMI UI.

Create a tag

Main article: Tags

Having tags is essential to managing your project since nearly every element of the THMI UI revolves around tags. Let us create our first tag folder and a tag in it as an example:

  1. Go to TAGS. You'll see the available options for tags in the top bar to the right of the breadcrumbs: screenshot with callouts If you don't see it, click on to open the Tag menu. Note that this menu is scrollable.
  2. Click on Create new folder Create new folder and enter a name for this folder, then click CREATE.
  3. You have now opened the Tag Editor (link to it!):

Create a page

From General, go to Pages; this is the interface where all Pages are managed. Pages created and/or edited here can be further viewed in HMI.

For initial setup, let us create a folder and then quickly build a page from a template (or create a new page):

  1. Click on Create new folder Create new folder and enter a name for this folder, then click CREATE.
  2. Click on  Show page templates

    — OR —

Create new page Create new page if you want to create a page from scratch.

  3. Private templates are only available project-wide; you'll see none in a fresh project. Thus, go to PUBLIC and select a template provided by EnergyMachines™, then click CREATE

Now you have a page that has copied its template’s name. Click on it to open the Page Viewer (link).
